Weekly Mix 2/20/13

I'm performing tonight with Peruvian healer Pierre Garreaud at the Won Buddhist Temple in Chapel Hill, NC. I was changed forever after one of Pierre's events at the Won Temple in October, and am now going to be part of the ceremony. I'm honored and excited for this opportunity. The event starts at 7 pm, and I invite anyone who can come to attend. It will be a powerful night.

Show Review: Toro Y Moi at Cat's Cradle in Carrboro Hill, NC

Oh, the grooves... 

Cat's Cradle was the place to be last Friday night, as Toro Y Moi kicked off the weekend with one hell of a dance party. Columbia, SC producer Chaz Bundick helms the project, supported by an ace backup band consisting of a drummer, guitarist/keyboardist, and one of the tightest bassists I've ever seen. The quartet's hypnotic blend of sultry rhythms and funk-ified chillwave textures had the sold-out venue grooving until well past midnight. Bundick, having grown up in the Southeast, admitted that it was a dream come true for him to play at the legendary Cat's Cradle, let alone sell it out. His gratitude was obvious from the smile on his face all night. 

Wild Belle and Dogbite provided support, but Dogbite's lack of dynamics started things off on a boring foot. Wild Belle, however, were great! The island-y rhythms and uniquely-voiced front woman woke everyone up nicely, and foreshadowed the dance party to come.
